The concept that CDs must lock up the depositor’s money is deeply embedded in the industry.  Could it be that the key to unlocking more value for everyone can be found in conditionally unlocking these accounts? The paradigm sounds so simple – If the depositor wants a better than overnight rate, they must “lock up” their money with us.  While commitments are good, when we close our eyes to the opportunities for both bank and depositor the rigidity stifles great opportunities in bank funding.  
 
 Specific topics will include:

  • Appreciation for the value that time deposits can offer to banks and depositors
  • Why money will migrate and time deposits will grow
  • Understanding the regulatory environment regarding time deposits
  • Improving depositor value without forfeiting any value at the bank
  • Using a market value approach to offer and promote daily redemption options in term deposits

Neil Stanley has been a banker for over 25 years. Neil was the CEO of $750 million Northwest Bank in Spencer, Iowa which operates in Omaha, Nebraska, Des Moines, and the Northwest Iowa regions. Prior to Northwest Bank, Neil was an executive for over 22 years with what became the largest privately held banking organization in the country – First National of Nebraska / Lauritzen Corporation. He served First National as Chief Investment and Liquidity Officer and Lauritzen Corporation as Vice President in general administration and supervision of community banks.
